Celebrating Gordon's birthday in Trinidad
|
|
Gordon and Charlie
|
During this period of time both Gordon and
Charlie have worked very hard getting Josie
Maria in “ship-shape” condition for the voyage back to Australia!
A massive list of maintenance and minor alterations to enable more efficient access to essential information, tools etc and stowage space for crew and guests!!
Some ongoing issues that we had when we left the UK have finally been resolved, Gordon has modified the main engine and generator so that our maintenance processes are now streamlined, we have a better solution re storage of manuals and gear and we are ready for a bit of cruising, passage making, exploring and fun!!
A big thanks to all those who have helped to ensure that Josie Maria is ready for the voyage home! I particularly want to thank the management, staff and contractors of Peake Yachts Services, as they did excellent work and really looked after us. Also Adrian Perrin, and the rest of the Oyster Support Team have done a wonderful job – so thanks!!

Arriving in Trinidad, Port of Spain, in the
first week of February John and Vicki were in time for Carnival, but a bit
early for Josie Maria! We had a couple of weeks for current
maintenance work to be completed….

Carnival in Trinidad
|
|
The Pitch Lake, these days used to make roads and in older days, to seal wooden boats
|
To utilize time available, John and Vicki
head to Barbados for 5 days – what a magical place! We really enjoyed our stay here. The weather was beautiful, as was the island
and the people. We managed to do some
work, with the internet at the hotel and also enjoyed snorkeling with turtles,
the Harrison caves and an island Safari in an open sided vehicle (which became
a bit damp – when the rain came!!). We
went to 4 very good restaurants: The
Cliff Restaurant (our favourite), The Tides Restaurant, 13/59 at Port
Ferdinand, and Cin Cin by the Sea. All
in all we had a really enjoyable stay.
End February 2016, back at Chaguaramas,
Trinidad Josie Maria was now off the
hard and in the water at Peakes Boat Yard.
Eventually Josie Maria was
moved to Crews Inn Marina where we finalised provisioning and last minute
maintenance.
We checked out on the 25th
February, after completing a float plan, and collecting our plastic flare gun
that we keep in our emergency grab bag, from customs.
